As Caeremonarius states the rubric is clear enough but why the difference? I suspect that most versus populum altars/tables of the period did not actually have a Cross on them and the arrangement was the same as in the photograph in Ellard's 'Men at Work at Worship'.Rubricariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05050302650867319277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8669950994040167422.post-38264388979252164472012-07-07T04:02:11.303+00:002012-07-07T04:02:11.303+00:00One curious omission from the free-standing altar ...One curious omission from the free-standing altar diagram: there is no indication for censing the altar crucifix.

The diagram doesn't show the incensation of the crucifix and reliquaries, but it's clear from the Latin rubrics directly below the diagram: the crucifix and reliquaries are incensed, then the numbers in the diagram are followed.Caeremonariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10767130733541445711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8669950994040167422.post-3386786228674659952012-07-07T00:52:42.882+00:002012-07-07T00:52:42.882+00:00I find it unsettling that the Cross/Crucifix is ig...I find it unsettling that the Cross/Crucifix is ignored when censing a freestanding altar. Am I to assume that Christ's sacrifice on Calvary is no longer important? That Crosses and Crucifixes were done away with it for a while in the 1970's at ad populum worship is even more unsettling.Victor Wnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8669950994040167422.post-1489201062974258832012-07-06T15:39:55.417+00:002012-07-06T15:39:55.417+00:00Rubricarius,

One curious omission from the free-standing altar diagram: there is no indication for censing the altar crucifix. Presumably it was censed in the traditional manner (as would be the reliquaries).
--Fr.
