I am assuming there is a typo in the entry for August 6, when it says the THIRD oration at private Masses is of the holy martyrs (presumably, it is the SECOND oration?).
@Joël, Indeed but first Vespers of both D2Cl and D1Cl feasts has an even more limited series of commemorations that can be made. Look at the table of concurrence in a Breviary of the period.
Thank you. Poor St Sixtus and his deacons don't have much room left with the Transfiguration. Maybe there is something to be commended in the Novus Ordo decision to move them to the 7 of August.
I didn't know some commemorations were already removed by St Pius X before 55-60 (well, I knew about simple octaves). It would have been much easier to make most saints feasts simple thus making second vespers something unusual rather than the norm.
@Joel, Indeed. Apologies for the late posting of your comments - yet another family crisis. Some commemorations were reduced before Pius X but it is not a simple answer.
Why isn't saint Sixtus commemorated at first vespers ? Doubles of II class can't have two commemorations ?

ReplyDelete@Joel,
ReplyDeleteSimple feasts are not commemorated in second Vespers of a Double of the Second Class, hence no commemoration of St. Donatus this Saturday.
@Paul,
Indeed. Interested in proofing Ordo MMXXIII?
Yes but St. Sixtus is at first vespers ?

ReplyDeleteOr return to earlier usage and allow more commemorations...
