Do you know why the Vigil of All Saints was removed in 1955 ? I can understand the rationale behind the removal of octaves (not that I agree with it) but the selection between the vigils really makes no sense to me : the Ascension keeping its vigil but not the Epiphany, Saint Lawrence being more "privileged" than the Apostles...
It was considered a 'medieval accretion' I believe. From memory the Pian Commission managed to get the date of its introduction wrong by several centuries.

WRT your earlier comment if you look at 'The New Liturgical Movement' Sig Di Pippo argues the Vigil is as old as the feast.
