The Nativity of the LORD

Meister von Hohenfurth 002

May all readers and customers have a very blessed, and peaceful, celebration of the Nativity of Christ.

Meditating on the first antiphon of Vespers yesterday, Rex pacíficus * magnificátus est, cuius vultum desíderat univérsa terra, one cannot but be struck by the need of metanoia and the urgent need of the world to turni to Christ with the daily headlines of wars, the genocide in Gaza, piracy on the high seas, the corruption and venal greed of politicians etc, etc.

  1. In some places there is the custom of veiling the image of the Christ Child in violet for the feast of the Holy Innocents. With the feast falling on a Sunday this year (red vestments, Gloria, Alleluia), would it be more correct to dispense with the veiling this year?

    1. I have never come across the practice but it makes sense to do as you suggest.

  2. Thanks for your response. The veiling seems to be done in Malta and Italy especially, but I could not find anything about whether the praxis should be modified on a Sunday. The 'Home Oratory' website has information about the custom of veiling the Christ Child in general.

  3. I find your comments about the dire state of the world very appropriate and can only wholeheartedly applaud them.
