St Joseph was observed on a Lenten Sunday? Strange.

Indeed, the SRC got on to that very quickly and reversed that particular decision about St. Joseph in a decree three weeks later - more on that in a subsequent post - however some of the other changes lasted a little longer before things were put back to how they were.

I see no reason for the highest class feasts (I usually extend the provisions of the 1983 Code of Canon Law to any double of the 1st class only in the older calendar) to be days of abstinence on Friday. But the rest... As you said, plus ça change...
